Well we have finally eaten the last of the christmas cake. Boy was it nice this year. <:widegrin
Now do i have the will power to start the half diet again (more cutting down than dieting) or do i go for another cake now they are half price <:widegrin
I know the answer really but surely some one will agree its a good idea :<wink

I made an extra large Christmas cake this year as I knew I would have to send some back with Robert and Liz and Andrew had his girlfriend to stay over Christmas. Must have made it too large as we still have some left (thankfully)

Patty Christmas cake is a luxury fruit cake with things like
Currants, sultanas, cherries, peel, brandy spices and bits. Can be made a few months before christmas and keep being feed with brandy :)
Then trimed wth Mazipan and icing.
So you can see the weight problem it causes.
As Steve said they use the same sort of cake for weddings in England.

P.S. Just found this basic recipe

Thank you for the info Mary! And thanks for the photo Steve. Wow - it looks extremely rich and heavy. And it looks quite delicious! We have your basic fruit cake here, but becoming less and less common.

I still have a little bit of mine left. No one else in our house eats it so the whole cake is eaten by me <:embarr
Luckily, I love Christmas cake - my jeans are now too tight to prove that fact :(

I wish no one else in our house liked Christmas cake it is my favourite.
Instead when Robert and Liz went back after visiting they asked to take a piece of cake back with them so 'dear' hubby cut them a large chunk then when Andrew's girlfriend went back home to Russia we got an email saying how much she had enjoyed so once again 'dear' hubby cuts off a piece for Andrew to take out to Vienna with him next month when they are meeting up. Last night we finished the last of our cake :( and next year if we are having any visitors I am making a larger one so I don't lose so much to others. (bit selfish but I did say it is my favourite cake).

My 86 year old aunt made mine - with help from her toyboy ( my uncle who is 85 :<wink)
They are fantastic for their ages, got married after 2 weeks of knowing each other and it's their 65th wedding anniversary later this year <:clap
