Its Friday morning, about 11.00 am, my class of 29 six year olds are getting ready for Games outside in the playground. All is calm.... but not for long!

All children in a state of undress, Fire Bell goes... children are brilliant and instantly line up at door, some crying as they have little on except their pants, and most have no shoes. I say, 'don't stop to get dressed, we must go NOW!' as bells screeching and I bet everyone else is outside checking their registers while we are not even out of the door! George is standing there barefoot so we grab his shoes on the way out. Thankfully, he is always slow getting changed as he talks too much so he is dressed apart from his bare feet! (so there are benefits to being a chatterbox!)

I turn round to see Amy sobbing her heart out, hopping about on one foot as she desperately tries to get her trousers back on - she now has both legs in one hole! No time for that, I have to whip her up in pants and socks, leaving trousers on floor, and manage to get her cardigan on as we move swiftly out of the door and round the school building on our way to the windswept playground, trying to calm her as we go.

Force 8 gale blowing in playground, children shivering in state of undress, Amy still weeping, as register is checked and rest of school appear - we are, of course the final ones to do so.

At last we can raise our arms to signal we are all present and correct.

End of drill and children go back inside school to get ready for games. Take children back out into playground, now kitted out in full PE kit.

Get equipment out for races as its end of term and they are having a treat - relay races, with lots of different equipment to choose from. Wind blows bats and balls over playground, hoops swirl across the tarmac, heavens open, bean bags get soaked and footballs are flying around!

OMG what else can happen? We grab the PE equipment and the children run inside to get changed. End of PE lesson!

A day in the life of an infant teacher!:<wink

Never mind ellie, hopefully it will be a long time before you have another day like that!! It is strange how some days things just don't go well no matter what. I suppose if we didn't have days like that we wouldn't appreciate the good days. :)

Well, Steve, it did get better..... or should I say worse.

Compliments of Squirrels' Class I ended up in bed on Sunday with a nasty tummy bug (they were going down like flies by the end of the week - sick bowls at the ready!) :<wink

Oh the joys of teaching....still, only 3 more days and the Talent Show to go (now I should have a whole host of funny jokes to tell you after tomorrow if the list of potential comedians is anything to go by!).

Actually, you probably won't understand most of the jokes.... nobody does. <:lol

Hi Ellie
Your post made me laugh, I do so remember how hectic this time of year used to be when my children were small, with all the different activities like sports day, plays, open day that we used to attend at the end of term!!!!! I expect you are really looking forward to the break - hope the weather stays fine for another few weeks for you <:widegrin

Well, today is last day of term here in Essex although I did see several older children in town yesterday afternoon who looked as though their school holiday had just started.

School holidays were my favourite part of the year when mine were at school.
