It is amazing to think that it is 40 years since the fateful Apollo 13 mission which could, so easily, have ended in tragedy. I know that when we visited Kennedy Space Center the museum was one of the most fascinating places, and in particular the exhibits from Apollo 13.

A number of events are being held in April and one of them is the visit to Kennedy on April 10th of Fred Haise and Jim Lovell, surviving Apollo 13 astronauts, who will be telling the story of this terrifying mission.

On April 9th Charlie Duke, who was the Apollo 13 backup lunar module pilot, will be at Kennedy to sign his book. He was the 10th man to walk on the moon, during the Apollo 16 mission.

I only wish we were going to be there to meet these astronauts. What an amazing experience it would be to actually see the men who set off in what look to be the most 'Heath Robinson' spacecraft to try to land on the moon. We were shocked at how basic the spacecraft were - examples at the museum show swathes of electical wires surrounding the seat where the astronaut would sit, and frankly it is surprising that anyone survived in such primitive vehicles - though of course, at the time they were state of the art.

If you are going to be there in April then it would certainly be worth a visit as it is included in the normal park entrance fee.
