Having had to abandon his car last night after 4 hours going nowhere, my son decided he should try to get to it to move it this afternoon. We accompanied him, and walked through the snow and ice until we got nearly to the slip road off the motorway where he had left the car, but it was difficult as there was no pavement and the road was littered with abandoned cars. We really weren't sure how we were going to get down to the motorway itself. The walk had been very hard going with thick snow still on the pavements and had taken us about an hour to do a walk which would normally take 15 mins.

Imagine our surprise when a large police vehicle stopped and called out to us, 'Do you want any help?' We didn't need asking twice. They told us to hop in their 4 x 4 and they would take us to the car.

It was lovely to get into a warm vehicle, and they took us down the motorway and back up the other side to reach Andrew's car. They then got out their spades and cleared the car for us, before telling us they would stay behind us until we were on the road.

Thankfully the car, though old, started first time, and we managed to drive all the way home.

So WELL DONE HAMPSHIRE POLICE! They did a marvellous job and without them I doubt we would have succeeded in rescuing Andrew's car.

They have been doing a stalwart job in our area which has been very badly hit, there were still dozens of cars abandoned along the motorway.

How lucky we are to have such an amazing police force.<:clap<:clap<:clap

That is so nice to hear Ellie. You must have all been freezing.
The police usually only get the bad bits reported about them.
I did say to Colin this morning reading your post that maybe we could have driven you to Andrew's car being so near. Good job i never offered we could not get the car from the drive safely.
Not looking forward to tomorrow as it ices over :(
Well done on the Police <:cheer

Glad your all home safe and warm

Thanks Mary. My husband and Andrew spent an hour and a half this evening trying to get my husband's car off the drive so he can go to work tomorrow but no success. It just won't go straight.

Goodness knows how he will get to work tomorrow - we have no buses at the moment and are not near a station.

Hey ho!

Let's hope we don't get any power cuts as we may be running short of gas in the country! Now THAT would be fun!<:wink
