If you have visited Epcot around Christmastime you will undoubtedly have walked underneath these wonderful illuminated arches, called Lights of Winter. In previous years they have been situated along the walkway which connects Future Land to World Showcase.

Sadly, Disney has announced that they will no longer be operational as they are 'old' technology and not worth revamping.

We have always enjoyed looking at these pretty lights as we walked towards the World Showcase lagoon for the firework and laser display so we will certainly miss them greatly.

What the truth is behind this we may never know. Is it actually a cost-cutting exercise? Apparently they could have been converted to LEDs, but it would seem that they will just disappear. As for them being 'old technology' as many people have pointed out, there are many things at Disney which could also be classified as such, and yet these have not been ditched.

I think this is very sad. There has already been a lot of complaints, so who knows, maybe they can be saved, but I won't hold my breath.

I never had the opportunity to see these - do you think they may have something bigger and better in mind for the future?

The lights used to 'dance' to music. It was a very nice touch.:(

Patty they are not giving much away. They are introducing a choir, but not anything yet which would match these lights. People seem very disappointed, and it does mean yet another thing removed from Epcot during the run up to Christmas. Let's hope they rethink and replace it with something even better.

It's a shame to see them go, I hope the put something else in its place.

Well, having seen for ourselves the missing Lights of Winter, it certainly does look a bit bare with nothing in its place.
