View Full Version : A really odd thing!

We were sitting in our sitting room at the front of the house the other evening when we heard a thump. Thinking it was a window banging we looked around upstairs but found nothing.

When my son went out to his car later that evening he found this - a huge baby bird which had been dropped from a great height onto the bonnet of his car. There are no nests around large enough to accommodate this rather large baby, so we can only presume that it must have been carried by another bird and dropped accidentally.

As you can see it is quite big - any ideas what it could be or how it got there? It obviously could not have flown on its own........

PS I have to tell you it had popped its clogs.

It does rather look as though something lost its dinner!

It looked so cute, just as if it was asleep. I bet there is a very large hawk somewhere with a rumbling tummy!

Could be a baby Magpie

As it's been very mild I read an article about birds roosting really late this year and raising 2 or 3 broods

It was certainly pretty big, as you can see, and quite plump, so it must have been looked after well before its demise. I wondered if some sort of hawk could have carried it, but don't know much about birds.

I think it's quite likely that it was snatched by a hawk who lost his meal in flight.
