Now you may find this strange as I am not a surfing 'dude,' but one of my favourite shops at Mall at Millenia is Hollister.
Now why should someone of my mature years like a shop which is designed mainly for the under 25's? Well, I suppose I stumbled on it first when I was dragged into it by my son. It's not my usual type of shop, and I must admit that the first time I was a bit overwhelmed by the darkness, the loud music and the number of youngsters shopping. But then I found the leather chairs, and it was just the excuse I needed to take the weight off my tired old feet, while my son examined every t-shirt and pair of shorts in the shop.
So there I was, relaxing in the comfy chairs, 'surfin' magazine in my hands, finding that the pounding music was strangely attractive. From then on I was 'hooked.' I love the screen which shows a live webcam of a surfing beach in California, but the best bit is the smell.
Yes, the smell, of 'So Cal' their perfume which is sprayed in the store every 60 minutes, on the clothes and on the mannequins. I just sit and inhale it, and it takes me to a sandy Californian beach with the surf curling.........mmmmm
Until recently, Hollister was only found in the USA, but they have since opened 4 stores, in Brent Cross, Bluewater, Westfields, and best of all, West Quay in Southampton....which is near where we live! Now I have to say that the one in Southampton, though typical in its decor of shuttered windows, brown walls and teal boardwalks, just doesn't have quite the same feel as the one in Mall at Millenia, but when I need a quick Hollister 'fix' it suffices.
I suppose I could now count myself as a 'Betty' which is surf-speak (or maybe Hollister-speak) for women.
Anyway, if you want to find me, then just stroll into Hollister, and if you see a lady of, shall we say 'mature' years, sitting engrossed in a surfing magazine, tapping her toes to the 90 decibel beat it might just be me...<:wink
