Although we have visited Magic Kingdom many times we always seem to have passed this attraction by on our way to Pirates of the Caribbean, but when we finally did venture into this recreation of the Swiss Family Robinsons home we found it quite delightful.
Those of us who are old enough to remember the 1960 film, which starred John Mills and told the story of a shipwrecked family who built a tree house on a desert island, will find this fascinating. It is beautifully recreated, with a winding tour of the family's house, which includes rope bridges and 116 steps.
As you walk through each room you can see the daily accoutrements of family life - lanterns, furniture, kitchen implements, a log book, a ship's wheel - all items supposedly salvaged from the wreck of their ship. Books are open as if the reader has just left the room, the dinner table is set ready for the family to sit down for a meal, clothes lie on the hammocks, waiting to be put on. In fact, it feels as if the family will return at any minute.
It certainly helps if you know a bit about the story, but I am sure that both adults and children would be intrigued by this tree house. And if you make it right to the top you will be rewarded with a wonderful view of the winding river and the Jungle Cruise.
So if you are feeling fit, and can manage all those steps then give it a try.
