Just had a letter today from Charter Travel to tell me that Continental have halved their luggage allowance from 2 x 23kg cases to only 1 case.
this takes effect from 1st sept , I m really annoyed <:angry as I chose this airline because of their luggage policy, having heard virgin had only a 1 case allowance too.
I am going to check though as I made the booking 5 months ago , so i feel its very unfair to change this after you have booked.
the charge for an extra bag is $50 ......
so gone are the days of being able to bring back the lovely comforter sets you can buy in America.

British Airways are changing their baggage allowance to one piece for any tickets bought after October 7th, so if you are planning to travel any time up to Sept 2010, then you will keep the two piece allowance if you buy your tickets before then. Any extra bags (if bought on line) are £32 each to encourage people to pay on line.
I would guess if you have just paid a deposit with Charter travel, they would only have reserved you a seat from their allocation, rather than paying the airline in full and securing your terms of travel. I would deffinately check with them.

As I understand it, Virgin won't be changing to the one bag. I will look further into it but I am sure I have seen it somewhere that they are the only ones, pretty much, that will still be allowing 2 x 23kg. The recent announcement of baggage changes from Virgin was to do with the premium economy passenger going from 2 x 32kg to 2 x 23kg. Unfortunately the airlines see it as another way to get some more money out of travellers. :(

called Charter travel and if you have paid your balance prior to the 15th sept then you keep the 2 bag allowance , after that its one bag only .
Airlines are really getting us by the short and Curlies ........

Virgin are one of the few who at the moment are staying with the two bag allowance. The reduction in the baggage allowance on the USA routes actually effect very few people as believe it or not, most people travel with just one bag and it is normal for most other places in the world. It does of course effect us owners who do all our shopping in the US :(
At least BA don't restrict weight for hand baggage <:wink

Shirley, how can anyone manage with just one suitcase???<:confused<:wink
I am so glad that BA don't restrict hand baggage although I have to admit that mine was so heavy when I got it into the locker that the plane had a definite list to starboard! <:lol

I must admit, we do take far too much stuff. What we do is an initial pack about 10 days before we go, then about 5 days before we go we refine the pack and reduce it some more. We have two big cases and two slightly smaller ones the snugly fit inside the larger ones. So on the outward journey we only have 2 cases, I have a rucksack on my back with cameras etc and wash stuff and Dawn has her handbag and the laptop, on the return it is a different matter. <:lol We have all cases full and struggle to keep things under the weight limit. The thing is though, a lot of the stuff we took out in the 2 cases didn't even see the light of day because as soon as we go shopping (which is pretty much within 48 hours of being on US soil) we end up buying new t-shirts, shirts, tops, shorts etc and wear those!! So yes we could cope with the reduced baggage on the outward but not on the inward journey.

Steve, I don't really take anything with me. Just underwear for a few days maybe 3 or 4 t shirts and some shorts and a cossy (or two!) Then something to take off the make up on the first night.
It always worries me that my empty case will get squashed, which is why I have to put the other one insde <:wink

Shirley, I couldn't get you to do my packing next time could I? <:wink
No matter how hard I try I ALWAYS end up taking far too much. Crazy really as you can buy anything you have forgotten over there.<:embarr
