The grand finale at Hollywood Studios is "Fantasmic" - it's an amazing water and fire works performance with incredible special effects. It's not to be missed, but the wait can be very time intensive and we found that a really good way to avoid it and have guaranteed great seating for the show is by booking the Fantasmic Dinner Package. You need to do this in advance by calling Disney. There are three participating restaurants that include Hollywood and Vine, Mama Melrose and the Brown Derby.

When we did this, we opted for the buffet at Hollywood and Vine which is a good choice for young families because they offer kid-friendly choices along with a great selection of entrees, salads, sides and mini-desserts. After dinner, the waiter provided us with our passes to the show. They have a special entrance for pass holders and we waited until only 20 minutes to show time to get there. It's quite a hike from the special entrance to your seats, but it was great not having to wait in line wasting all that precious time plus risk not getting a seat.

We have only seen Fantasmic once Patty, and you're right it is a long wait if you want good seats. We thought about this after we saw the show. What was the cost?

It depends on which restaurant you choose. The Brown Derby is the most expensive and Hollywood and Vine is the least. I believe we paid around $30 for the adults and around half of that for the kids. It didn't seem like we were paying more than what you normally would to eat there really.

I heard that they are cutting the number of Fantasmic shows, which is a shame as its one of our favourite attractions at Hollywood Studios.

Yes they are! They are only doing it on "select" nights now! What a disappointment it would be to be there on an off day.
