View Full Version : Worth going for a week

The title says it all really, what do any of you think ?
I have been giving a week of work from 31st Oct.(they wont let me have a week unpaid) My daughter said if i could get a reasonable flight i should go and chill out by the pool. Just me and Colin,
Part of me thinks it is better than waiting till NEXT year, :( but the sensible me thinks it is a long way for a week being as you get jetlag on the return.
Has anyone done it and if so was it okay ?
Thanks
Mary

There is no doubt in my mind <:widegrin
I go whenever I can and am not usually lucky enough to go for more than 5 or 6 days :( on the plus side, you have less time to get used to the time change, so less time to get used to being home ag <:winkain

You need to ask US, Mary, who are Florida Fanatics whether its worth going for a week? ABSOLUTELY! Even a week in the sunshine will do you a world of good.
And yes, we have done it. We once flew out to visit our daughter who was working just north of Boca Raton for a year as part of her degree course. We found a cheap last minute charter flight and had a great time. We had a very long drive - we flew into Sanford and then had a 200 mile drive, arriving late evening. Mind you, the time went in a flash, but we wouldn't have missed it for the world.
Go on, do it, you KNOW you want to.............<:wink

I agree with ellie Mary, I would go for a week if the price was right and made it worthwhile. Go you know you want to.... <:lol

What a silly question! We have done a week a couple of times and would jump at the chance to do so again if the opportuniy presented itself.
The first time was when we decided to buy our villa - it was very hectic but it did not put us off. The second time was for spring break when Andrew was at University in Miami - this time it was a more leisurely break.

Well, Mary, now you have had all our expert (and totally biased!) advice, don't you think its time you looked for your flights? Let us know what you decide....<:cheer

Thanks everyone i knew it was a silly question <:embarr but i do struggle with flying a bit <:embarr so i suppose i was thinking about that side of it as well.
A week would be so good you are all so right. Been looking at flights today. But i will hold of until bank holiday weekend you never know there could be a mini sale. <:widegrin
10 days has been the shortest we have gone and we ran out of time to get things done. A chill out week sounds so good.
Thanks everyone really love your expertise <:widegrin

Good grief - would we ever give a biased opinion when it comes to going to Florida<:wink

If you struggle with flying Mary (as I do!) then ask the doctor to prescribe something for you to calm your nerves. It's worked for me!

Heaven forbid!
Glad to hear you are thinking about going, Mary. Am sure you will have a great time.
I used to be petrified of flying, never flew anywhere for years and years, then about 12 years ago we made our first trip to Florida and I was so desperate to go that I decided I had to conquer my fear for the sake of my children as I did not want them to be held back the way I had been. So I steeled myself not to show my fear, and just concentrated on them and tried to get them to enjoy flying and strangely it worked. I know that my initial fear was instilled into me by my mother who although she did fly was absolutely terrified each time, and I know it rubbed off on me.
I love it now and look forward to feeling the power of the engines as we race down the runway - a few years ago it would have left me shaking!
I do hope that you find something to help you with your fear of flying.

Thanks Patty i do get pills from the doctors. Had Hypnotherapy a while ago and that helped loads, i flew 3 -4 times after no problem. Last trip over i got the old fears back. Lots going on at the time so i reckon that did not help.
Ellie you are so right knowing what is sitting waiting the other side of the pond is so worth the flight. I am that sure we are going to go now (please be some resonable flights) i have started listening to my Hypno. tape and will get some pills for back up.
I am so pleased i asked now, Thank you all for convincing me i am getting that buzz you always get when you know your going. :)
Big Thanks Every one <:cheer

I say yes get a cheap flight and go , we did just that in June with only 3 days notice and it was fantastic , mind you we didnt do the usual Disney parks etc , we just chilled and shopped it was brill.
re your fear of Flying I have a sister who cant even go into an airport to pick someone up without felling sick , that was until someone reccommended RESCUE REMEDY DROPS [ you can buy them in boots ] she swears by them and now she flies no problem , they dont make you drousy they just have a calming effect ,

Great news, Mary. I hope that you have a great time and that you find a way of coping with your anxiety over flying.

We intend to go later this year - even if it's just for a couple of days. I think if you can get a cheap flight then you can enjoy every second of even a very short stay by trying to keep to your own body clock.

My son decided he needed a break last Monday, on Tuesday he booked for 9 days , flew out on the Thursday and returned on Sunday , he said it was one of the best times hes had over there as it was a totally chilled out break [ he has a stressfull job] .
He even bumped into one of his mates from work and spent a few days in Tampa .
