I am sure that I read somewhere of a beach where you can collect shells, on the Gulf Coast, but I can't find the link. I believe there is a boat which takes you there which leaves 3 times a day.

Does anyone know where I can find this information, and if so, how far is it from the Disney area?

Thanks.

Hi ellie,

there are one or two places, I think that Sanibel and Captiva offer some of the best shells on the Gulf but closer to the Disney Area is Honeymoon Island which is a State Park just north of Clearwater. You can make a nice day of it by visiting Tarpon Springs too, a Greek community, that used to dive for natural sponges. You can get a kebab there too... <:widegrin

Honeymoon Island is connected to the mainland by bridge and is pretty peaceful, well it was the 2 times we went. There is a place to get refreshments and something to eat. There are plenty of shells and that's what most people are there for. Like i say I think Sanibel has the edge but is much further away. I am not sure of the one you are referring to unless it is Caladesi Island, which you do get there by boat. It was voted the nation's best beach recently. You get the ferry from Honeymoon Island.

Here is the link for both parks

Thanks, Steve, I really enjoy collecting shells. I develop a stoop the minute my feet hit the beach. You know the sort of thing, head down, eyes scanning the sand, then a sudden grab for a handful of pebbles and with water dripping through your fingers you open you hand to find - nothing! That elusive and beautiful shell you thought you had in your grasp is no longer there, but swept back into the sea by the waves!

Mind you, it never puts me off as I always feel that there is a special 'one' just waiting for me to find it!

I know ellie,

it is the same for us, we plan all these things to do but one thing and another crops up and there is just not enough time.
