We are looking for a beach to visit. We want peace and quiet not bars and restaurants, so the usual suggestions such as Clearwater would not suit us.

Has anyone visited this beach, and if so which route did they take, as it seems to us that the I-75 might be less busy although it is probably longer?

It looks fantastic in the photos, just up our street, but it would be useful to hear from someone who has been there.

Thanks!

It does look a nice place to visit with something of interest for all. I have just been looking at this site and it is packed with info, http://www.fortdesoto.com/index.php I don't know if that was the same site you were looking at ellie but when you click the "Next Page" it seems to go on forever with lots of interesting information. It is something I may look at next time. The distance is not much further than St Pete's either.

Thanks for that, Steve. I found a fantastic 360 degree tour which shows the beach to be just what we would enjoy - unspoilt. I am tempted to try the I-75 route via Brandon to avoid the traffic around Tampa, and St Petersburg.

Yes ellie, that's the way I would go. :)

Ah, good. That is what we will do then. Looks like we will have to go over a very long bridge to get there, which will be exciting. We loved going over the bridges on the way to the Keys, so it will be interesting to see a different route.

Just got directions and using the Tampa route is around 100 miles but using the I-75 is only about 10 miles more but less time, so it must be the less busy route.

Well, we planned to visit Fort de Soto, but we had a couple of unexpected things happen so we never made it. We were so disappointed but at least it gives us an excuse to go back and visit Florida again as we simply must visit this paradise next time we go.
